Yes. To keep the air fresh for everyone, Under the Hemlocks is a scent-sensitive space. We kindly ask that you avoid strong perfumes, sprays, or heavily fragranced products during your stay.
🚭 Is smoking or vaping allowed?
No. This is a strictly smoke-free and vape-free property, both indoors and out. Evidence of smoking or vaping will incur a $150 specialized cleaning fee.
🕯️ Can I use candles or fresh rose petals?
To keep the suite pristine and safe, we don't allow open flames or fresh petals. We provide flickering flame-free candles for ambiance, and faux rose petals are available exclusively through our Celebration Add-On.
🛌 Who can stay overnight?
Only registered guests listed on the reservation may stay overnight.
👥 Can I have visitors?
Of course! Visitors are welcome to enjoy the space with you between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.
🐕‍🦺 Can you host pets?
Unfortunately, no. Our resident dog is quite territorial and reactive toward other animals, so we must remain a pet-free listing for everyone's safety.
⏰ Can I arrive early or leave late?
We try to be flexible! Early arrivals or late departures may be possible if arranged at the time of booking.

The studio is an intimate, open-plan space designed specifically for a maximum of two guests.

Under the Hemlocks is designed as an adult retreat. The suite is not child-proof and is unsuitable for infants or children under the age of 12.

Yes. A European small double bed (converted from seating with a custom topper) can be prepared for an additional $40 per stay.
Note: As this is a studio, the second bed shares the main living area and will make the space feel more compact.

🍽️ What is in the kitchenette?
It’s fully equipped for real cooking! You’ll find a microwave, toaster, coffee machine, fridge/freezer, rice cooker, blender, and a versatile air fryer (with bake, roast, and broil settings). There is also a compact dishwasher and a full suite of cookware and glassware.
🔌 Can I bring my own kitchen appliances?
Most likely! Just check with us first to ensure it’s compatible with the suite’s power and space.
🛁 What should I know about the bathtub?
Our deep soaking tub and rain shower are built for relaxation. Please note it requires a high step-in (not ADA compliant) and the overflow is adjusted for a deep soak—just be mindful not to overfill!
📚 Is there a TV?
No. To protect the calm, restful atmosphere, the suite is intentionally TV-free. Instead, we provide a curated collection of books, puzzles, games, and art materials.
📱 Where are the instructions for the suite?
Everything is at your fingertips! Use the interactive touchscreen in the kitchenette for Wi-Fi and amenities, or scan the QR codes located around the suite for quick video guides on how to use the 3-in-1 table and remotes.
🧺 Is there laundry?
We provide a hand-wash bowl, soap, and a drying rack for light items. For larger loads, local laundromat details are listed on the kitchenette touchscreen. A clothes steamer is also provided in place of an iron.

🌳 Is it quiet?
Usually, very! We are in a peaceful, wooded residential area. You may hear occasional sounds of nature, or the normal activity of a home (the host’s dog or grandchildren playing), but it generally remains very tranquil.
🍂 Can I use the outdoor kitchen year-round?
The prep kitchen is limited to the worktop only during the winter. Access may also be limited during heavy rain, snow, or local fire restrictions.
✍️ What is the Writer’s Retreat?
It’s our favorite spot—a rustic, off-grid screened sunroom for reflection. It features a desk, comfy seating, and a gel-fuel fireplace (3 hours of fuel included; extras $15).
Note: Closed December–February and during severe weather.
🦊 Will I see wildlife?
Yes! You are in a woodland ecosystem. It’s common to see foxes, possums, and local birds. They are our neighbors—please treat them with respect!

Yes. By booking, you confirm you’ve read and accepted our House Rules and Liability Waiver (standard for the use of the fire pit and fireplace).

Guests assume all risk when using the fireplaces or fire pits, release the host from liability, and agree to operate them safely. This waiver is a standard part of our House Rules and applies to every booking.
🔧 What if something breaks?
Don’t worry—normal wear and tear happens and is never charged. We only ask for reimbursement for significant damage, such as deep stains, burns, or broken furniture.
💳 What is the cancellation policy?
We adhere to the terms set at the time of booking. Because we are a small, independent stay, we strongly encourage guests to purchase travel insurance for peace of mind.
