- Place aux Huiles is a large esplanade located on the left bank of the Old Port of Marseille. Originally, it was an old canal that allowed the galleys access to the arsenals.
Subsequently and until the beginning of the twentieth century, this canal was used to disembark the barrels of oil in the direction of soap factories located in Sainte Street. The canal was filled between 1927 and 1929.
Today it is one of the most popular places to live in Marseille, with its many terraces of restaurants and cafes.
